Since we launched Creative Life Story Work in November 2022, more than 11,000 people have accessed the website, which contains resources, training and information designed to help people deliver better life story work for care-experienced children and young people.
Nearly 800 people are also Creative Life Story Work members, which means they have full access to all our resources and toolkits, including up to 12 of our expert-led Live Classrooms per year.
And six local authorities and organisations have invested in Creative Life Story Work memberships, to give their teams access to all our support and training.
One of the most recent organisations to invest in a Creative Life Story Work membership is Tower Hamlets Council, which has a local population of more than 310,000 people.
Sandra Garner, who is a life story social worker with Tower Hamlets, said: “We are excited to embark on our new life story work journey with Blue Cabin’s Creative Life Story Work programme! We can see it has tremendous potential to help us better support ALL the care experienced children we work with.”
Both Darlington Borough Council and South Tyneside Council have recently renewed their memberships for a second year and both were part of the 2021 roll-out of the Creative Life Story Work model, which was funded by What Works Centre for Children’s Social Care. And Therapeutic Life Story Work International has invested in a membership to all its UK members.
Martin Webster, Workforce Development Manager, Darlington Borough Council, said: “Darlington Borough Council has been involved in Creative Life Story Work for a number of years now and having membership for all our staff and carers helps us to implement everything we’re learning.
“It gives everyone the opportunity to access the wonderful plethora of tools, resources and training on the website and it means our staff can stay on top of new developments in life story work which is really important to us.
“It’s also beneficial in terms of sustainability — by investing in this learning, we’re creating a sustainable life story work offer for all our children and young people.”
Creative Life Story Work membership is available for individuals as well. One member who has just renewed her membership for a second year is Angela Sitoe, training development officer at Sefton Council, who said: “I renewed my membership because I accessed high quality Live Classrooms training last year. The online format means I can access training experiences with nationally and internationally known speakers such as Richard Rose, Polly Baynes and Mary-anne Hodd in a comfortable space and without the time spent travelling.
“Gold standard experience from CLSW training team. Keep up the good work.”
Jenny Young, director of Blue Cabin, the charity behind Creative Life Story Work, said: “We want to thank every single person and organisation who has become a member, come along to one of our training sessions or made use of the information and resources on our Creative Life Story Work website.
“Our ambition is that more care-experienced children and young people are supported to understand their life stories and move on to a better future, and supporting staff and practitioners to do life story work better is how we will help to make this happen.”
