My Favourite Things Activity Four: Conversation Catch

A quick All About Me activity to start conversations.

My Favourite Things

The aim of this section is to support a child or young person to think about what is important to them. Rather than thinking about their favourite person, this theme is more related to things, like colours, hobbies, school or college, and toys. By exploring these things alongside a child or young person, it will add to your knowledge about potential ways into other conversations.

Activity four: Conversation Catch

Approaches and creative ideas to help you facilitate this session

This game could be used to support the This Is Me theme, as well as this theme.

Get a soft indoor ball or a beanbag and sit opposite the child or young person (this can be done with more than two people and could be a family exercise). When you throw the ball or beanbag, ask a question.

The person who catches the ball or beanbag answers the question and then throws the ball or beanbag to someone else. As they throw, they ask that person a question.

You can theme the questions before you play, for example worries and hopes, family, school, or friends.

This resource was developed by Blue Cabin, Professor Richard Rose and South Tyneside Council.

The Creative Life Story Work website is designed to share ideas, tools and inspiration for practitioners. It’s important that practitioners take responsibility for making sure the life story work they deliver is safe, high quality and appropriate for the children and young people they support.
